Before you think that our newest idea is unethical or against the law, what we mean by this title is that we think you can save a great deal of money in a room you never considered; your bedroom. By definition, a passive income is one that is made by no effort on the earners part, like rental property or investments. The way we see it, money saved by taking easy steps to avoid waste in your bedroom could be considered a passive income as well.
Of course, whether or not you would call these tips a way to make a passive income, they will save you money. And who cares where you get the extra money as long as it’s there when you need it. So, without further ado, here are few ways we see waste in the bedroom and how we think you can avoid it.
Don’t pay for pain
Some of our mattresses just don’t do right by us. This is a fact. While physical labor and other activities in our daily lives affect our posture and our all around well-being, where we sleep has just too much to do with back, shoulder, hip, and neck pain we might be feeling.
These pains that we feel cost us money in more ways than one. We pay for pain killers, physical therapy, doctor visits, and any remedies they recommend or prescribe. Health care isn’t the only way pain from our mattresses cost us excessive money.
When we are in great discomfort from a bad night’s sleep our day may not go that well. We don’t perform to our peak at work, which could cost us money in lost revenue. Or we make a big mistake that costs money.
There are options
One way to relieve that pain would be to investigate sleeping positions. Some of us like to sleep on our side but this may be the cause of your agony. Try and adjustable bed. Here is a great review of the best mattresses for adjustable beds.
If you find that your back feels better when you are sitting in an angled, upright position, an adjustable bed may be right for you.
Try sleeping with a pillow between your legs if you are suffering from back pain. This helps put your spine in a natural position, which will relieve the pressure and not force you to sleep in an awkward position. With this support your back pain should ease.
If you are suffering from shoulder pain then sleep with a pillow in between your arms. In fact, hug it like a companion. The pillow will help your top shoulder stay in a good position. Without it, the arm will act as a weight as you sleep and put pressure on the top shoulder, which can result in damage.
If your neck is hurting, try sleeping with a pillow under it to relieve that pressure. Whatever the pain is, do what you can to help yourself not only to save money. These ailments can cause damage in those joint areas and may take longer to heal if left untreated.
Of course, if you have tried several remedies, see a healthcare professional if the pain is not getting better.
Turn them off
This one may seem simple to some of us but the reality is, there are still people in this world who walk out of the room and leave the lights on. If you are doing thi, it is costing you money. Regular light bulbs can run you .75 cents for every hour they are left on, yet the LED or more efficient modern light bulbs will only cost you ⅙ of that. So if you can’t learn to turn them off then by all means, put in bulbs that save on energy costs.
And the devices
While you are at it, shut of the television, the tablet, the computer, and the phone. This will not only save you a few cents on energy bills, it will help you get uninterrupted sleep, which will keep you healthy and save you money.
Unplug them once they are charged. The energy bill won’t rise from leaving your tablet plugged in, but it can ruin the battery on your device and require the purchase of a new one.
And the air conditioning
It is difficult to sleep in a hot room, but if you can tolerate an open window and a fan then you will save a couple hundred dollars over the summer if you shut off the air. This is a significant savings in comparison to the other appliances we’ve mentioned thus far.
Go through your belongings in the bedroom and get rid of anything you don’t need. If you haven’t worn it in a year say good-bye. If the items you are purging are in great shape, start an Ebay account and sell them. This income wouldn’t be passive but it can make you some extra money.
And who is opposed to extra money?
