By now everyone has heard of the Internet auction giant eBay. In fact it’s been documented that over 36% of the world’s online purchases were made using eBay.
What does that mean for you?
It means that when you choose to sell your stuff, you need to do it online so that you can reach the highest number of potential customers possible.
But with more than 38 million different sellers all posting items at the same time, how do you stand out from the crowd? What sorts of things will sell the best and make me the most amount of money while doing so?
According to eBay’s Seller Center, the following items are the top selling items on eBay currently. If you have any of these lying around your house, or you notice them on clearance at a store, you can list them with the online giant and expect them to sell quickly!
The Best Things to Sell on eBay:
Expensive Watches and Jewelry:
A high quality watch that works for both a formal and casual setting never goes out of style. That’s why they are always in such high demand. Consumers are willing to search eBay to find discounts on brand names they trust such as Movado, Fossil, and Kenneth Cole.
Jewelry is also the same way. Mid-range, affordable jewelry lines such as Pandora and Swarovski have become all the rage among middle-class women and the men who want to buy them gifts. If you have either of these recognizable names of fashion ware but don’t seem to wear them as much, consider selling them on eBay while the trend is still hot.
Fashionable Women’s Clothing:
Have you ever heard of Lilly Pulitzer? Apparently Target did, and they made a killing in the process!
When Target decided to launch Pulitzer’s new line of clothing at their stores back in April of 2015, women everywhere lost their minds! Stores were reported being wiped out of the merchandise within 15 minutes or so.
Do you want to guess where a lot of it ended up?
You guessed it – on eBay. And for 3 to 5 times the price that Target was charging.
If you can spot a hot, trendy deal like this, you’ve got an opportunity to double or triple your money in a very short amount of time.
Remember that the items don’t have to necessarily be new with the tags. Even used items such as Lucky jeans or Anne Taylor dresses will still sell very well on eBay.
Tech from Big Name Brands:
These days it’s almost impossible to go anywhere without seeing someone on the screen of their smart-phone, tablet, or laptop.
Tech stuff from brands like Apple, Samsung, and others are some of the best items to sell on eBay because you can list them at almost-new prices. Even though the items may be used or even second hand, consumers want them and will be willing to still spend close to market value while the gadgets are still hot.
Baby Items:
Having a baby is expensive! New parents find this out very quickly, and that’s why a lot of them turn to eBay for deals. That creates an opportunity for you!
If you’re child has outgrown a lot of their toys and clothes, consider selling them on eBay. Toys can usually be broken down so they are not quite so bulky. Baby clothes do really well if they are still in good condition. Bundle them together in groups of 10 or 20 to help sell them more quickly (as opposed to individually).
Used Car Parts:
Though you probably wouldn’t think so, used car parts sell very well on eBay.
Why? Because when motor enthusiasts need a particular part that is no longer manufactured, the part becomes harder and harder to find. That means you can command a much higher price.
Women’s Shoes and Purses:
Similar to the women’s clothing above, accessories such as shoes and purses from top-name brands are very popular items to sell on eBay.
Think of brands like Coach, Jimmy Choo, and Vera Bradley. If you ever happen to notice one of these items on clearance at a local outlet, look it up on eBay first and consider whether you could flip it for some easy cash!
Musical Instruments:
Musical instruments and gear almost never go out of style. That’s what makes them so great to sell on eBay – you can sell them for almost as much as you paid for them 10 years ago.
If you’ve got some instruments such as a guitar or drums that you don’t use any more, then you should definitely list them on eBay if you want them to sell quickly.
Don’t forget about gear such as guitar amps, DJ mixers, microphones, and recording decks. These are also just as much in demand.
And Many Others!
The bottom line is that, even though it may not be completely passive income, using eBay to sell and flip items is still great for knowing how to make extra money on the side. People can click, review, and buy your stuff from literally anywhere. It’s the classic garage-sale model of selling taken to a whole new extreme.
